I note you have “Qawwali” listed under “Inspirational – Christian & Gospel”. As Qawwali is an aspect of Sufism it is actually Islamic, not Christian/Gospel. Could I suggest a new Genre of ‘Inspirational – Islamic” for Qawwali?

My thoughts are perhaps a scholarly approach and finding music maestros to validate.
Bottom line is anyone can create a new music genres, but that doesn’t mean it will be accepted by musicians!

Hello! I would like to contribute with four genres, one is called Future Bass which is a pretty popular EDM subgenre. The other three are a bit niche but they are dubstep variations like chillstep, these are:
-CumbiaStep: Combines latin cumbia with dubstep, obviously. Was created by argentine producers Omar Varela and Quicksmell

-PirateStep: Powerful pirate-y melodies, Omar Varela produced this too, but this genre caught on more than the previous one.

-MetalStep: The most popular of these 3, the main artist is Sullivan King

    Hi there,

There is also a new music art form genre invented by me, Tone Landscape (my word) also called Tonescape (Blueshift word) – here is one example:

    First: https://metapop.com/Peter-S-Quinn/tracks/in-the-moonlight/161874

And then in collaboration with Blueshift: https://metapop.com/blueshift/tracks/ps-in-the-moonlight-with-contributions-from-blueshift/162007

I hope you put it on your music genres list to protect it.

There’s one genre that I listen to that I’ve only seen the name of it used once on the internet, but the genre of music I’ve heard a few times by the same author. The genre is called Other Time, and it was tagged as the genre for the song Credits by Frums (youtube link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOTAWLaDa58). The author of this song has made various songs like it, so I was wondering if you’d consider purring the genre on the site.

    Very cool stuff!!

I quickly scanned down to the Drum n Bass. Impressive. I have another for dnb: half step (or half-step. was sometimes called drum step. But half step is more used now). Basically with the snare, being used every alternative bar.
It was kind of a reaction to dub step arguably, hence the name half (or drum) step.

Disco polo – is a genre of popular dance music. Created in Poland in the late 1980s, it was initially known as “sidewalk music” (Polish: muzyka chodnikowa) or “backyard music” (Polish: muzyka podwórkowa). The Polish PWN dictionary defines the genre as a Polish variant of disco music.

Riddim: A form of rhythmic Dubstep that is meant to imitate the original sound of dubstep

Melodic Riddim: Riddim but colourful in it’s new melodic elements using various techniques to add harmonics to Riddim basses

    Briddim: Riddim with Brostep elements

Future Riddim: Riddim but has melodies, this is different to Melodic Riddim because it doesn’t necessarily add harmonics to basses but plays a melody anyways

I’m not sure I agree with the “alternative” distinction at all, that was sort of just a buzzword media gave to stuff in the 90’s. Punk itself is an analogue of rock n roll. It was born out of many different genres depending on what part of the world you’re looking at, but it certainly rightly deserves to reside under “rock” and then have its own section with its myriad offshoots/subgenres listed.

Certain feakbeat/psychedlic/garage music of the 60’s is widely considered to be some of the earliest precursors to punk. You also had glam rock like The Sweet and then later The New York Dolls that were instrumental in the development of punk. There’s plenty more to talk about here but you get the idea.

I’d vote to remove the “alternative” section in its entirety and start fresh. The dichotomy of genres should keep broader distinctions at the top and then progress from there. This whole project seems rather disjointed and in many sections downright misguided. It’s a cool idea but should employ better research and a more focused and thorough topology. I’d be happy to collaborate when I have time.

I see that you do not have Vallenato listed. Vallenato is a seperate genre that is mainly from Colombia and is very important to popular culture in Colombia. It would thus be classified as a under Latin music. Subsequently I would not classify Baithak Gana as a Latin genre, as the main influence is from Indian music, maybe a better classification would be under South Asian music.

Naming Genres/Types of Music by a Name and Link to their Origins, does have a Value. However, it is a VERY Little Value.

Because there is no Definition of the Music it’s self. What Instruments? What Scales and Keys? What Beats? What Rhythm Patterns? What Makes it different from it’s Parent Music Genre? What Musicians? What Cultural Links and Affects?

I could go on, as I am yet to find ANY Source that provides what I’m looking for, then my disappointments are diminished. THAT would be of value, especially to Musicians, and Music Historians. If I am mistaken, that there is just such a Web Site, Books, and/or Source or Sources, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
