Country Music Gains Top Position as Most Popular Music Genre!

by

Yeee Haw! The Country music genre surpasses even classic rock to hit number one in popularity! That’s a surprise but no surprise when Country music keeps edging toward the center of music, with cross-over artists and popular songs with twangs!

“According to newly released information from The NPD Group, a global information company, country music surpassed classic rock, to become America’s most popular music genre last year.”

Just the music stats ma’am

I don’t know about popularity, but in terms of revenue, rock and pop far surpass country on a global scale. Japan, which is now the world’s largest music market, is dominated by J-Pop, J-Rock, and K-Pop.

I disagree. The most popular among the young crowd is pop/hip hop but there seems to be a small window when its popular. Majority of people I know listened to it when they were in Middle/High School but once they grow up they no longer do. It’s almost as if they realize how stupid 90% of the music is. No adult is listening to Miley Cyrus. lol

I like how they divide Rock into a bunch of genres but not Country. Looks like this declaration is bs.

Im from ny and didnt believe this but several articles including the nytimes claims country is most popular music in america. Not globally and not among kids but all ages and just in america. So it doesnt matter whats most popular on a global level or just among brain dead kids. This article reflects all ages combined in america.

Except they aren’t being honest. The only way Country comes out on top is if you divide genres like rock into subgenres and don’t divide country into subgenres. Like this article did. If you added those rock sub-genres together, it smashes country out of the park even if you add classic rock with only one other rock sub-genre.

Country is still not the Top position and doesn’t look like it will be any time soon. This is just a bunch of country fanatics trying to convince themselves otherwise.

You totally missed my point. They cheated to make country look the most popular by dividing Rock and other genres into subgenres. If you did the same thing to country, it wouldn’t be the most popular. It has nothing to do with me just not believing the numbers. It’s classic data manipulation to try to change the result.

That’s because country has two genres. Really old country and country. :p Rock is way more divided in it’s fan base.

Jimmy 1337 I agree with you. Whenever any component is divided into several sub sets it dilutes the vote and creates a false result.

Yeah but “classic rock” isn’t really a genre. A lot of the options aren’t.

    Not true.
Why is rock divided into “Classic” and “Alternative/Modern/Indie”?
If we divided country up, it would fall far down the list.
If only it would fall off the list completely.
